Meet Charles

A South-East Queensland Native.

Charles McAlister is a 27 year old Toowong resident. Having grown up in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland where he attended a State primary school and going on to complete his Secondary schooling at Nambour Christian College, Charles is a native of South East Queensland.

With his early education, Charles fully appreciates the importance of the values of honesty, integrity and support for those in need to the functioning of our society.

After school Charles travelled extensively working overseas and in South East Queensland in his earlier adult years. He later returned to Brisbane, completing a degree in Communications and Journalism at QUT, Kelvin Grove with a focus on politics and social media.

From his upbringing to his education, Charles is a South-East Queensland native and stands ready to serve the community.

A hard worker.

Charles has had a diverse working life. From construction to hospitality, from apprenticeship to management Charles has worked across Queensland as well as internationally at a number of venues including five star hotels and Brisbane International Airport.

Charles has worked extensively in construction, as a finishing foreman and supervisor on the construction of medium rise resorts at Coolum and Mt Coolum on the Sunshine Coast. He is currently working on medium rise units in the Redcliffe and North Brisbane area.

In the wake of the devastating 2013 Bundaberg floods, Charles was able to put these skills to use. After travelling north he was able to offer first-hand help rebuilding not just homes but the wider community.

A community minded progressive.

Charles describes himself as socially progressive, economically conservative and environmentally aware. He seeks to enter Parliament to bring an end to the never-ending stand off between the major parties.

He believes we need to have more cooperation and genuine negotiation in government if we want to achieve the best outcomes for Queensland.

Charles feels that the major parties are being driven more and more by an ideology shaped by powerful lobby groups, whose interests do not align with the community and do not serve our natural, social, built or business environments.

Through his studies and work experiences Charles has realised that government decisions now are creating his future. He is concerned that many younger people have little power to influence decisions and their views, their ideas, creativity and innovative approaches to working and living are not being accommodated by old policies and trapped thinking.

With his honesty, unimpeachable integrity and collaborative attitude, Charles will diligently work to achieve the best outcomes for all Mount Coot-tha constituents.
